A team of two are to complete the garden build from a gadren design within 16.5 Hrs. The team have to calculate the materials required, which were supplied to site ahead of the competition starting. A 6m x 4m sleeper frame is installed and the garden must be built within a 2mm tollerance of all dimensions, including heights and levels. The team are to supply all of the required tools, with power and water organised on site. Judging is carried out throught the build, watching carfully for health and saftey, and tidiness of the team. The pressure is imense, but the sense of acheievement is incredible.
garden build features
1000mm x 1000mm x 800mm Tree Planter constructed from 140mm x 70mm planed timber.
1000mm x 4500mm x 600mm Block Retaining Wall constructed from celcon blocks clad with Marshalls Stoneface Drystack Slate Verte. Capped with a 140mm x 70mm timber seat coping.
1000mm x 1000mm x 400mm Wildlife Pond Constructed from 140mm x 70mm planed timber with a welded seam pond liner to fit.
9.5m2 Marshalls Symphony Paving in metallic grey to be laid on type1 sub base, full mortar bed and 5mm joints. Brush in jointing compound supplied.
Informal fence / pergola using constructed from 100mm x 100mm timber posts at 1700mm, 1500mm and 1300mm high.
Planting beds to be planted with plants supplied, but to the teams own planting scheme, mulched with limstone gravel on the lower level, and bark chip in the raised planter.
Award silver merit
We couldn't be prouder to be awarded a Silver Merit by Adam Frost from Gardeners World and Holly Youde from the APL. All the hard work, stress, ups and downs, early starts and late finishes, it was all worth it and we hope to return next year.
